Spice up your Sangiovese
Mulled wine is a great option on a cold winters night.
Try this recipe using our Nonna Gisella Sangiovese.
3 fresh bay leaves
100g caster sugar
1 vanilla pod
1 cinnamon stick
2 star anise
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 bottle of Nonna Gisella Sangiovese
extra orange and star anise for garnish
Place sugar, vanilla, bay leaves, large pieces of citrus rind, citrus juice and all spices excluding star anise into a large pot. Add enough wine to cover the sugar and turn onto medium heat. Stir until sugar dissolves.
Bring to the boil, and boil for 5-7 minutes until a thick syrup remains.
Turn onto low heat and add remaining Nonna Gisella plus star anise. Gently warm for around 5 minutes.
Strain into glasses and garnish with fresh orange slice, cinnamon sticks and star anise if desired.
