Vintage 2017
This vintage we had a very wet winter and spring, winter never seemed to end. This season variation in rain meant that we had very cold soils in spring, which led to a delay in the vines bud busting. Ultimately, this means the grape harvest started a month later than usual. It was quite cool and mild during late December and early January, which lead to maximum flavour development at lower sugar levels. The coolness of the vintage conditions was perfect for producing white varieties and early ripening reds.

Some batches of Sangiovese were fermented at a warm 30°C to extract as much flavour, tannin and texture as possible while the remainder was fermented at a lower 23°C to help retain freshness and lifted fruit characters. The Shiraz was fermented separately at 25°C to extract more delicate aromatics and fruit flavour. Following fermentation both varieties were placed in stainless steel to mature and to impart freshness to the wine. The resulting wine is our “vino di tavola” Chianti style made for drinking now and every day.

The Wine
This wine has gorgeous ruby red colouring with a slight red brick hue. Initial aromas are of raspberries and cherries while closer inspection releases notes of roses and soft dried herbs. Juicy plums and raspberries fill your mouth and soft tannins combined with subtle notes of herbs and white pepper lead into a medium finish.
